During the first six weeks of school, The children work together along with their teachers to establish the kind of classroom they want for the year. The teachers have also established a set of daily routine tasks that the children are getting used to. These tasks are implemented to help the children gain independence of taking care of themselves and following directions.
Each morning the children have what we call their "morning routine". They are asked to complete each task independently before engaging in "free-time" activities with their friends. These tasks include:
Put home/school folder in paper cubby
Put lunchbox on shelf
Answer the morning message question
Complete daily activity sheet
Add the number to their daily calendar
Hang up coat and backpack
Having parents and teachers on the same page is extremely important in helping the students to gain independence and progress at school. It would be very helpful to have conversations with your child about the "morning routine."
